As part of Leadership Week activities, the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad welcomed a group of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), in the presence of the College Dean, Prof. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, and members of the College Council.
The visit was part of the College’s community responsibility initiatives and efforts to promote inclusion of diverse social groups. The program included a guided tour of the College facilities and a series of educational and recreational activities supervised by faculty members and volunteer students, aimed at providing a supportive and accommodating environment for the visitors.
The initiative comprised two main parts. The first was a workshop entitled “Effective Classroom Strategies for Teaching Students with Autism”, which highlighted effective methods for interacting with students on the autism spectrum. The second part featured success stories of two individuals with severe autism, Mohammad Arkan and Dhulfiqar Arkan Saadi, showcasing their achievements and inspiring participants.
The College emphasized that this initiative is part of a series of activities designed to raise awareness about autism, encourage societal support for this group, and highlight students’ humanitarian projects during Leadership Week.
The event concluded with the College Dean and Council members distributing gifts to the visitors in an atmosphere of care and social responsibility, reinforcing the College’s ongoing commitment to community service and educational outreach, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of Quality Education, Reduced Inequalities, and Good Health and Well-Being.
