The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at University of Baghdad hosted the second day of the international Erasmus Conference on Tuesday, marked by the active participation of the Erasmus Guide—the first specialized guide dedicated to the Erasmus Program in Iraq. This milestone represents the country’s first step toward institutionally organizing frameworks for international academic cooperation.
The event was attended by Prof. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, Dean of the College, along with directors of scholarship and cultural relations departments from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as several presidents of public and private universities. Participants were distributed across four training halls, which featured interactive sessions with international trainers specialized in the Erasmus Program.
During the sessions, four main Erasmus programs currently implemented in Iraq were reviewed, with emphasis on mechanisms for leveraging them to strengthen academic and research partnerships, develop joint diploma programs, attract visiting professors, and broaden horizons of scientific and cultural exchange between Iraqi and European universities.
This event reaffirms University of Baghdad’s and Iraq’s higher education institutions’ commitment to academic openness and the adoption of best international practices, in line with the goals of education and sustainable development.
This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Quality Education and Partnerships for the Goals.
