The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at University of Baghdad organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled “The Concept and Importance of the GPS System in Sports Training.” The workshop introduced the Global Positioning System (GPS), explained its operating mechanism, and highlighted its growing importance in sports, particularly in training processes and match management.
The workshop aimed to clarify the main components of GPS systems, the data and variables they measure, and how they can be utilized to monitor physical and technical performance. It also emphasized the system’s role in supporting fitness coaches and team coaches, enhancing training planning efficiency, and improving technical decision-making.
The sessions included scientific and practical explanations on using GPS to analyze training load, measure physical exertion, and track performance development, contributing to performance improvement and injury prevention. The workshop was delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Shirzad Mohammed Jaro, Asst. Prof. Dr. Omar Mohammed Majeed, Lecturer Dr. Harith Mubasher Mohammed, and Asst. Lecturer Yasser Ahmed Mohammed.
