The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad hosted, on Tuesday (16/12/2025), a meeting of the Diwani Order Committee tasked with developing the national strategy for Iraqi sports. The meeting was held in the main discussion hall of the College, with the participation of a number of officials, specialists, and staff concerned with sports affairs.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Hassan Al-Hasnawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and attended by heads and members of the working teams affiliated with the Diwani Order Committee. Discussions focused on the key axes for formulating the strategy, which aims to advance the reality of sports in Iraq, including the development of sports infrastructure, support and identification of young talents, enhancement of athletic performance at both local and international levels, and the adoption of modern scientific mechanisms to achieve sustainable development in the sports sector, sports media, and human resources.
The College administration emphasized that hosting this meeting reflects its academic and societal role in supporting national initiatives and actively contributing to the preparation of studies and scientific visions that help shape clear sports policies based on solid scientific foundations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a set of recommendations and proposals was agreed upon to contribute to establishing a comprehensive roadmap for the development of Iraqi sports in the coming phase, in line with modern developments and future aspirations, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals 3 Good Health and Well-Being, 4 Quality Education, 9 Industry Innovation and Infrastructure, and 17 Partnerships for the Goals.
