In the presence of the Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences at the University of Baghdad, Prof. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, and the Director of the Student Activities Department, Dr. Ali Sadiq Thiyab, the University of Baghdad football team began its participation in the Iraqi Universities Championship with a well-deserved 1–0 victory over the University of Samarra team.
The match was intense and evenly contested, with University of Baghdad player Fares Thaer scoring the only goal of the game. The team’s coach, Dr. Ahmed Thari Hani, expressed his satisfaction with the players’ performance, emphasizing that winning the opening match provides a strong morale boost for the team as it aims to compete for the championship title.
It is worth noting that the Iraqi Universities Championship is held on the fields of the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences at the University of Baghdad under the supervision of the university’s Student Activities Department. The tournament features the participation of more than 60 public and private universities from across the country.
This event aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
