Prof. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at University of Baghdad, hosted retired Olympic champion Ghada Shouaa, who represented the Syrian national athletics team in the heptathlon, winning the gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. She currently serves as a member of the Syrian Olympic Committee.
The meeting highlighted Shouaa’s distinguished sporting career, during which she represented Syria in multiple international championships and was crowned with prestigious Olympic medals before her retirement.
The Dean expressed his pride and joy in welcoming one of the most prominent figures in Arab and world sports. For her part, Shouaa expressed her happiness to be at the college, accompanied by Iraqi champion Dr. Maysaa Hussein.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Dean presented the Olympic champion with an honorary shield in recognition of her global achievements, her contributions to sport, and her support for Iraqi athletics.
