Under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, and the supervision of the President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Baha Ibrahim Ensaf, the Department of Student Activities at the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority organized the technical conference for the finals of the Iraqi Universities Tennis Championship.
The conference was attended by Prof. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Dr. Hassanain Basim, Director of the Student Activities Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr. Ali Sadiq Thiab, Director of the Student Activities Department at the University of Baghdad. It was held in the grand hall of the college, setting the stage for the upcoming championship.
The tournament will take place on the courts of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad. It will feature the participation of 47 public and private universities in the men’s category and 37 universities in the women’s category, reflecting the broad engagement of higher education institutions in Iraq in promoting university sports.
This event aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, by encouraging students to engage in sports activities that enhance their physical and mental health. It also supports Goal 5: Gender Equality, as it provides equal opportunities for both male and female students to participate in competitive sports. Furthermore, the championship fosters Goal 4: Quality Education, as it reinforces the role of sports in university education, developing students’ skills, discipline, and teamwork.
