The University of Baghdad women’s volleyball team won the Iraqi Universities Championship after defeating Al-Mustansiriya University team in the final match with a score of 3-0. The match showcased outstanding performance throughout the tournament and was held at the College of Basic Education at Al-Mustansiriya University.
The final match was attended by Prof. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, and Dr. Ali Sadiq Thiyab, Director of Student Activities at the University of Baghdad. Dr. Thiyab emphasized that the University of Baghdad team demonstrated exceptional performance during the tournament, earning them the championship cup. He highlighted the team’s dedication to achieving this victory and adding the trophy to the university’s history of achievements.
Dr. Thiyab noted that this championship provides a significant opportunity to showcase student talents and enhance university sports activities. He further stated that winning the title is a new achievement added to the bright history of the University of Baghdad in university sports.
Prof. Sabah Qasim Khalaf reaffirmed his support for all University of Baghdad sports teams, recognizing the importance of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in providing talented athletes who contribute to the university’s success.
This achievement aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting physical activity, and Goal 5 (Gender Equality) by encouraging female participation in sports.
