The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at University of Baghdad held a distinguished sports festival on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, to mark College Day and the 71st anniversary of its establishment, in the presence of the Dean of the College, members of the College Council, a number of faculty members, and students.
In his opening speech, the Dean of the College, Prof. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, emphasized that the festival aims to promote sportsmanship among students, reinforce the values of cooperation and fair competition, and celebrate the college’s academic and athletic achievements over the years.
The festival featured a remarkable participation by world-class weightlifter and college student Ali Ammar Yusr, who delivered an impressive weightlifting performance showcasing his outstanding physical abilities and sporting achievements. His performance was met with great admiration and interaction from the audience, highlighting the college’s role in supporting elite athletes and nurturing sporting talent.
The event included a variety of sports activities and competitions, such as weightlifting, five-a-side football, basketball, and volleyball, in addition to sports displays presented by college students that reflected their high level of skill and advanced football techniques.
The festival witnessed wide student engagement and concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winning teams and participants, amid an atmosphere of joy and pride in this annual celebration.
