Several faculty members from the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad took part in the qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup (Qatar 2027), held in Beirut, Lebanon, reflecting the college’s active role in supporting sports at both national and international levels.
The college was represented by Dr. Saeed Ahmed Saeed as the national team’s fitness coach, Assistant Lecturer Yasser Ahmed Al-Ani as the team statistician, and Assistant Lecturer Thulfiqar Fadel as a player with the national team, showcasing the college’s strong academic and practical expertise.
The Dean of the College, Prof. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, expressed his pride in the participation of the college’s staff in this international sporting event, noting that such involvement enhances the college’s standing and supports its vision of integrating academic knowledge with high-level sports practice.
The participating faculty members affirmed that this experience provided valuable exposure to the latest organizational and officiating practices in international championships, contributing to the development of new perspectives that will benefit university sports and enhance future activities within the college.
The participation aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education, good health and well-being, and partnerships for achieving the goals.
