The Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, welcomed Younis Mahmoud, President of the Iraqi Football Association, during his visit to the college to observe the training sessions of the Iraq Veterans National Football Team and follow various sporting activities held at the college’s facilities.
The association president attended part of the veterans’ training session and reviewed the training programme and the players’ level of readiness. He praised the efforts of the technical and administrative staff, as well as the players’ commitment to maintaining their training and preparing for upcoming competitions.
The visit also included observing the training of the Iraqi Women’s Rugby National Team. Younis Mahmoud emphasized the importance of continuing to support national teams across all categories and providing suitable environments to develop their performance and advance Iraqi sport.
He also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between sports and academic institutions and utilizing the scientific and sporting resources of Iraqi universities to support national teams and athletes, while maintaining the active role of former Iraqi football stars in the sporting community.
The college administration welcomed the visit and affirmed its readiness to strengthen cooperation with the Iraqi Football Association in support of national teams and the development of Iraqi sport.
