Dr. Wasan Hanon Ali, a faculty member at the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences – University of Baghdad, participated in the meeting of the Women’s Committee of the International Asian Federation, held in Mascat, Sultanate of Oman, from 27–28 November 2025.
The committee consists of representatives from six Asian countries: Iraq, Thailand, Oman, China, Nepal, and Bangladesh. The meeting discussed a number of agenda items, most notably developing women’s basketball competitions, setting effective mechanisms for promoting the sport across Asia, and identifying the key challenges facing the growth of women’s sports in various regions of the continent.
The meeting was held in conjunction with the Gulf 3×3 Basketball Championship for women and men, hosted in Muscat during the same period, which provided broader opportunities for exchanging expertise and strengthening cooperation among regional federations in support of the sport’s development.
This participation reflects the significant role of Iraqi expertise in Asian committees and reinforces Iraq’s presence in international sports forums.
