The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad discussed a doctoral thesis by Osama Munther Hussein, entitled “The Role of Good Governance in the Scout Movement in Achieving Selected Dimensions of Sustainable Development from the Perspective of Wood Badge Holders in the General Directorates of Education in Baghdad.”
The discussion committee included Prof. Dr. Hassan Ali Karim as Chair, Prof. Dr. Suhair Mutab Mana, Assist. Prof. Dr. Saba Qais Ghadban, Assist. Prof. Dr. Nibal Karim Abdullah, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Qusay Mohammed as Members; and Prof. Dr. Zahra Shihab Ahmed as Member and Supervisor.
The significance of the study lies in developing and standardizing a good governance scale for Wood Badge holders working in the General Directorates of Education in Baghdad, as well as developing and standardizing a scale measuring selected dimensions of sustainable development among the same population. The study also aimed to identify the role of good governance in the Scout Movement in achieving selected dimensions of sustainable development.
The researcher employed the descriptive approach using survey and correlational methods, as they were considered appropriate to the nature and objectives of the study. The research population consisted of Wood Badge holders working at the Ministry of Education and the six General Directorates of Education in Baghdad.
The researcher concluded that the good governance and sustainable development scales developed for the Scout Movement were suitable for measuring the perspectives of Wood Badge holders and met the required scientific standards for validity and reliability. The scales were also easy to administer to the study sample. The findings further indicated that the Iraqi Scout Movement possesses both the potential and practical capacity to contribute to achieving selected dimensions of sustainable development.
