In a remarkable sporting event, Dr. Zaidon Jawad Mohammed, faculty member at the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, University of Baghdad, was awarded the Sports Leadership Medal by the Asian Athletics Association for the year 2025. The award came in recognition of his outstanding contributions and long-standing efforts—spanning over 12 years—in advancing athletics across Asia.
The honor was presented during the Asian Athletics Congress, held alongside the 26th Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea. This recognition underscores the importance of academic leadership in sports development and reflects international appreciation of Iraq’s role in promoting athletic excellence.
This achievement also aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It contributes to Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, by promoting physical activity and sports as a tool for public health, particularly among youth. It also supports Goal 4: Quality Education, through the academic and educational impact of Dr. Zaidon’s work in the field of athletics training and development. Furthermore, his participation in an international sports congress embodies Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by strengthening global collaboration in the field of sports science and education.
The Asian Athletics Congress aims to spotlight distinguished academic and professional figures whose work leaves a lasting impact on the sporting landscape across the continent.
