The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad discussed a doctoral thesis by Al-Sajjad Raad Khanjar, entitled “The Effect of Specialized Exercises Using an Innovative Device on Selected Types of Strength, Kinematic Variables, Shooting, and Long Passing among Handball Players Aged 16–18.”
The study aimed to design an innovative training device, develop specialized exercises using it, and examine their effects on selected physical, skill-related, and kinematic variables among handball players aged 16–18. The researcher used an experimental design involving equivalent control and experimental groups with pre- and post-tests. The sample consisted of 14 players from the Karkh First Directorate Education handball team in the 16–18 age category.
The importance of the study lies in addressing the lack of specialized handball training devices that combine resistance characteristics with precise control over resistance angle and stability. The innovative device was designed to develop explosive strength and speed-strength in the arms and trunk, which are closely associated with successful shooting and long passing.
The researcher concluded that the exercises performed using the innovative device were an effective specialized training method, transferring the acquired strength directly into measurable improvements in technical and mechanical performance. The experimental approach also outperformed conventional training, which lacked immediate mechanical feedback.
