A master’s thesis by student Shajan Yassin Taha, entitled “The Effect of Spirulina Supplementation on Certain Biochemical Indicators and Performance in 400m Runners Under 20 Years”, was discussed at the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, University of Baghdad.
The examination committee consisted of:
•Prof. Dr. Iman Abdulameer Zaaon – Chair
•Prof. Dr. Ihab Dakhel Hassan – Member
•Prof. Dr. Salman Ali Hassan – Member
•Prof. Dr. Zaidon Jawad Mohammed – Member and Supervisor
The significance of the study lies in enhancing athletic performance in the 400-meter event by providing antioxidants to reduce free radical levels in athletes’ bodies—free radicals that can damage cells and increase lactic acid accumulation, leading to muscular fatigue. Reducing these factors can help improve endurance and allow athletes to achieve higher performance levels.
The research aimed to identify the impact of spirulina supplementation on reducing oxidative stress, increasing total antioxidant capacity, decreasing free radical levels and lactic acid concentration, and ultimately improving athletic performance in 400m runners under the age of 20.
This research supports the Sustainable Development Goals: Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, and Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
