As part of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s commitment to monitoring and assessing the academic and scientific performance of Colleges of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in Iraqi universities, two faculty members from the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad — Prof. Loay Sami Rifaat, Secretary of the College Council, and Asst. Prof. Ali Saad Abdulhameed — participated as members of the ministerial committee tasked with evaluating the scientific and academic reality for the academic year 2024–2025.
The committee’s duties included visiting several Colleges of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the Universities of Tikrit, Al-Hamdaniya, Mosul, and Kirkuk, conducting on-site assessments of the educational process, infrastructure, curricula, and overall academic and administrative performance.
During the visits, the committee also reviewed the official documents and evaluation forms approved by the Ministry’s Department of Supervision and Scientific Evaluation, ensuring a precise and objective assessment of the academic and scientific status of these colleges.
On the sidelines of the visits, the committee delegation met with Prof. Imran Jamal Hassan, President of the University of Kirkuk, who praised the committee’s efforts in assessing academic realities through field engagement, emphasizing the importance of direct communication between universities and the Ministry to improve educational outcomes and strengthen academic quality.
This participation reflects the pioneering role of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences – University of Baghdad in supporting the Ministry’s efforts to advance the physical education and sports sector in Iraq, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4: Quality Education and 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
