On the occasion of the Iraqi National Day celebrations, the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad organized a special sports event featuring a friendly basketball match between master’s and doctoral students. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm, teamwork, and a strong spirit of unity.
In his speech during the event, Prof. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, Dean of the College, emphasized that this cherished national occasion represents an opportunity to strengthen the values of unity and belonging while promoting national identity among students and college members. He also highlighted the vital role of academic institutions in fostering national awareness and spreading a culture of love, cooperation, and mutual respect.
The match showcased an impressive level of performance and fair competition, marked by high sportsmanship and collective engagement. The game concluded with the PhD students’ team emerging victorious after an exciting and closely contested match that drew strong encouragement from the audience.
This initiative comes as part of the college’s efforts to promote communication among postgraduate students and create a positive environment that combines education, sports, and national pride, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3: Good Health and Well-being, 4: Quality Education, and 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
