The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Iraqi Central Federation for Aquatic Sports and Sailing, held a specialized introductory lecture on sailing, attended by a number of the College’s faculty members and students. The event aimed to strengthen cooperation between academic institutions and national sports federations.
The lecture was delivered by Alaa Al-Hassoon, an Asian sailing umpire and Head of the Sailing Referees Committee, and Ramzi Riyadh, with the participation of Al-Hassan Hadi Abdul-Hamid, a member of the Iraqi Central Federation for Aquatic Sports and Sailing.
The lecture introduced the sport of sailing, explaining its rules, technical fundamentals, and officiating procedures. It also highlighted the importance of the sport, opportunities for its development, and ways to promote awareness of sailing among students, thereby broadening their sporting knowledge and familiarizing them with a wider range of specialized disciplines.
The event encouraged interaction among participants through the exchange of information and expertise and responses to students’ questions. This engagement strengthened students’ theoretical and practical understanding while opening new opportunities to explore sailing, its practice, and its development.
The activity forms part of the College’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with national sports federations, promote academic and sporting cooperation, and diversify its educational and introductory activities to develop students’ skills and broaden their knowledge of different sports.
