Prof. Dr. Muhammad Jawad Kathem, one of the faculty members of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences – University of Baghdad, has published with the coauthor Hasnaa Ali, a master’s student, a research paper in (Pakistan Heart Journal) an International Journal indexed within the Scopus & Clarivate database. The research entitled:

“Special exercises for some physical, kinetic and electrical abilities accompanied by symmetrical electrical stimulation in the rehabilitation of the muscles of the legs for patients with simple hemiplegic cerebral palsy”

The research aimed at identifying  and knowing the effects of some of the physical, motor and electrical capabilities of the working muscles of patients with simple hemiplegic cerebral palsy, and preparing special exercises (water rehabilitation accompanied by symmetric electrical stimulation) in rehabilitating the working muscles for patients with simple hemiplegic cerebral palsy. The researchers have conveniently used the experimental approach in one group design with two pre and posttests to meet the research problem .The research community consisted of patients with simple hemiplegic cerebral palsy resulting from various injuries. The research sample consisted of patients with Cerebral palsy, simple hemiplegia, and they have damage in the left part of the brain or paralysis in the right part of the body in addition to (5) patients over the age of (35) years who have control over their own needs (urination and excretion).

The research concluded that the early rehabilitation approach is more useful in rehabilitating muscles that are not reached by stimulation, and the use of symmetrical electrical stimulation is better than using uncontrolled intensity by external stimulation. The recommendations confirmed the need to unify rehabilitation curricula in the Iraqi Ministry of Health and rehabilitation centers, and the need to treat the injury medically before rehabilitation.
