The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad discussed a doctoral thesis by Ayat Radi Duwai, entitled “The Effect of the Five-Phase Learning Cycle Model for Students with Surface and Deep Learning Styles on Cognitive Achievement and Performance of the Forehand and Backhand Strokes in Tennis.”
The study aimed to develop instructional units based on the five-phase learning cycle model for students with deep and surface learning styles and examine its effect on their cognitive achievement and performance of the forehand and backhand strokes in tennis.
The importance of the study lies in the role of teachers in developing learners’ abilities and skills through effective educational methods, approaches, and tools. It also highlights the need for innovative instructional models that help students acquire knowledge and apply it effectively, thereby improving their educational achievement.
The researcher concluded that applying the five-phase learning cycle model had a clear positive effect on learning and performance among both the deep-learning and surface-learning experimental groups. The study recommends adopting innovative instructional models based on behavioural, constructivist, and meaningful-learning theories to enhance students’ achievement and contribute to the development of the educational process.
