Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences – University of Baghdad, and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Kojer, Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences – Salahaddin University, and in the presence of a number of conference guests from inside and outside Iraq, a sports festival was held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences. The celebration coincided with the Fourth International Scientific Conference on Sports Sciences and Technology for Sustainable Development.
The festival, held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, featured a variety of sporting competitions including gymnastics, boxing, fencing, squash, athletics, basketball, volleyball, and football. The college students impressed with their outstanding performances and participation.
This special occasion marked the legacy of the mother college, which over the decades has graduated many scientists and athletes who made lasting contributions across various sports and inscribed their names in golden letters in the history of Iraqi athletics. The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences rightfully holds a distinguished status among its peers in Iraq for its significant role in promoting knowledge and advancement not only in the sports field, but across diverse areas of life.
On the sidelines of the festival, Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim Fadhel Abbas, a faculty member of the college, was honored on the occasion of his retirement after a long and accomplished academic career. Best wishes were extended to him for continued success in the years to come.
The celebration also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in advancing quality education, promoting good health and well-being through physical activity, and supporting inclusive community engagement.
