The University of Baghdad topped the Iraqi universities in the Webometrics classification, as it ranked first in Iraq among 122 Iraqi universities and at the rank of 41 in the Arab world among 1365 Arabic universities making the rank of the University of Baghdad within the top 3% at the level of Arab. Globally, it is ranked 1571 among 12002 international universities making the university among the top 13% at the level of the world

This progress comes as a result of the studied plan prepared by the Presidency of the University of Baghdad and followed up in detail on a daily basis. The most important steps to enhance the university’s rank in the classification were the launch of the digital repository of the University of Baghdad, which provided all the research of the university’s journals to be available directly and for free. The second step is to follow up on the accounts of faculty members and postgraduate students on Research Gates; spreading the culture of scientific research; using scientific research tools; creating LinkedIn pages for all colleges; updating all colleges’ sites in English, and a set of other procedures in the short and long term

The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, which is a research organization under the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). CSIC is recognized as the largest public research body in Spain
