The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad \/ Theoretical Sciences Branch, in cooperation with the Scientific Committee of the English Language course, organized a workshop entitled \u201cIdioms and Culture: Exploring Figurative Language\u201d. The workshop aimed to highlight the role of figurative language in linguistic expression and to enhance cultural understanding.<\/h6>\n
The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Shireen Abdulmunim Saeed, Assistant Lecturer Samar Mohammed Fadhil, and Assistant Lecturer Yusra Abdulhussein. It addressed several key themes, including the concept of figurative language, its importance in everyday and literary communication, and its relationship with cultural and social context. The workshop also included practical activities and examples from different languages and cultures, which contributed to deepening participants\u2019 understanding of how figurative language functions.<\/h6>\n
The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the concept of figurative language and its role in effective expression, raise awareness of the close relationship between idiomatic expressions and culture, and develop comprehension and communication skills by enabling participants to interpret indirect meanings in various linguistic contexts.<\/h6>\n
This workshop contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by promoting inclusive, culturally aware, and effective language education.<\/h6>\n
